PRESENTS
A DR OZ HARDWICK SPECIAL
AS HE RELIVES HIS
MEMORIES
(FOR THOSE "WHO DID NOT KNOW", HAWKON WAS AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY EVER HAWKWIND CONVENTION THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE. ORGANISED BY "HAWKFRENDZ" TREV HUGHES IT HAD EVERYTHING GOING FOR IT APART FROM IF MY MEMORY SERVES MY CORRECTLY ONE THING, THE WEEKEND IT TOOK PLACE ON WAS ONE OF THE WORSE WEATHER WISE IN MY OWN LIVING MEMORY, AND HENCE I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE THE TRIP FROM ESSEX, SO AS THE GOOD DOCTOR PUTS IT, I WAS ONE OF THE "WUSSES" PUT OFF BY THE WEATHER.)

" The wind was (as I recall!) raging and the stars were quite possibly black (though it was impossible to see because of the snow), we all knew there was no turning back (except for the wusses put of by the weather) (that'll be me then!). But one thing was certain: it was the night and indeed day of the hawks! to use the tired old phrase, "if you can remember it you weren't there". Fortunately, I have photos, which may stir some vague recollections.
The crowning glory was, of course, the shambling, free flowing jam sessions of Hawks past and present. it was the first time many of us had heard Hurry On Sundown live, & maybe the only time anyone's heard Hawkwind play Wild thing (...or maybe I'm making that up). The crowd of course lapped it up. Ah, heady days of youth, hope & optimism. But even before the gig it had been quite a day:
Nik and
Dead Fred vied for the most weatherproof headgear
Dave Anderson took a day off from catalogue modelling
...But was totally outclassed by the customary casual elegance of Alan Davey
The camera shy Frenchy was there with Brian and Ann Tawn (Hawkfan)
....also there was Steve Pond (ICU), who was thrilled to meet that front row ECT (channel 4 TV prog, Hawkwind clips appear at our cinema page!) - (Lab Coat Pete)
