"And that toe tapping number was by a new beat combo from the Ladbroke Grove area of London, England by the name of Hawkwind, and the song was called Silver Machine!" |
The main aim of this page is to eventually house the recordings of Dave Brock reading from the Hunter S Thompson classic "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas" which should have been in my possession by now had it not been for our illustrious postal service, who appear to have lost them (bas****s). So for the time being here are the details of DJ's who to my knowledge have a vested interest in Hawkwind, so why not drop these people a line, who knows we might get the band mentioned more often and if we're lucky perhaps we can get some other stuff played on the radio other than the obligatory Silver Machine. Regular
visitors to the site will already be aware of our Mark Radcliffe page and the fact that
curator Dave especially, is a big fan of their broadcasting talents (or lack of!). I'm
sure that with a bit of prompting from good people such as yourselves we could get them to
play some Hawkwind on daytime radio 1, which when put like that has got to be worth 5
minutes of anyone's time to write an e-mail. Their show goes out between 01.00pm and
03.00pm Monday to Friday and can be contacted by clicking on the picture on the right. ARTHUR BROWN |

Yes you read correctly, starting on the 27th July and continuing on for the next five weeks, Arthur is standing in for Iron Maiden warbler Bruce "air raid siren" Dickinson on his Freak Zone show on BBC Radio 6. With this mans credentials, surely it has to be worth dropping the show a line and "DEMANDING" he play some Hawkwind. The show goes out between 21.00 and 00.00 BST and can be contacted by clicking on the image on the right or via e-mail at bruce.dickinson@bbc.co.uk or on the phone 08700 100 600 or on text 07940 100 600 |
If anybody can think of any other DJ that could be added to the list then please e-mail with the details. They don't have to be British, the only entry qualification is that with gentle persuasion they might find it in their heart to play some Hawkwind! |
AS PROMISED (AT LONG LAST!)
Fear not good people, fear and loathing is coming ( and very good it is to ) but for now how about the interview segments from when hawkwind appeared and Mark Radcliffes late night show back in the early ninties. The fisrt part is especially worth listening to as the hapless radio 1 jocks give their own special tribute to the hawks and believe me it's not to be missed.
The files are in the format that they will work fine with Windows Media player, for a fuller description of this and the links to the appropriate downloads from Microsoft I suggest you visit the Hawkwind cinema which has all the relevant information.

Click above to hear a Hawkwind classic played in a very different way. It's Stranglers frontman J J Burnel's interpretation of Quark Stangeness and Charm I
presume from the sound quallity that it's a bootleg, but I can't be sure so I really
cannot guide you on how you enjoy this performance (do you copy it or not!, what a
dilemma). By way of a compromise I would suggest that you visit the Stranglers own site by |
