***EXCLUSIVE***
First
and foremost it's a big thank you a new contributor to the museum, Nigel Potter for
supplying these photographs which I think I can say with some certainty have never been
seen before. The main subject of the shots is none other than hawkwind bass player Alan
Davey in his pre Hawk days when he was a member of the Suffolk based band Gunslinger, who
also counted amongst it's ranks Nigel himself, who as well as all this happens to be
Alan's cousin as well!.
I hope
you'll find these as interesting as I did and on this occasion I'm going to play it
straight and dispense with the usual low brow humour as I think they speak for themselves.
You've seen
the pictures now listen to the band

No mistaking Alan in either if
these shots but also visible here is Nigel on Guitar and in front of the pair of them is
Alan's brother Steve who also managed the mighty "Slinger". These were taken at
Hillside studios in Ipswich. |

|
On the left is a shot from 1981
showing Nigel and Alan and as Nigel comments the bass assassin is clearly "doubting
the prowess of my manhood!". Meanwhile the picture on the right dates back even
further to 1979 when the pair of them were in another band by the name of
"Chainsaw" |
|
|
On the left it's more material
circa 1979 whilst to the right it's the 1981 version of Gunslinger, the full line up being
Drummer Andrew Lamb, Alan and Nigel.
(note, ones to assume that Alan Lamb did in fact possess a whole body and he's merely been
cut in half by whoever took this snap, rather than the other way around!) |

To finish off, another 3 shots,
this time in black and white, from the "perm period". By now the bands line
consisted of Alan, drummer Andrew Lamb and Nigel Sherman on guitar |
A
late addition this one, again kindly supplied by the one, the only Mr Nigel Potter. The
main subject of course is the original bass Assasin himself Lemmy, but to his right in
this picture is who many would consider "Aire to the thone", young Mr Davey.
This picture was taken in "Parrot Records" in Ipswich when Mr Kilmister's
Motorhead were doing a signing session so appropriately and quite conveiniently Alan has a
copy of the Bomber album ready for the "Lemster" to sign.! |
